My name is Brenda, and I am a golf league manager. Our 60-member ladies league plays out of the Kingsville Golf and Country Club in Kingsville, Ontario, 27-hole semi-private facility that boasts a membership of 500 and numerous leagues: men’s, seniors, ladies and juniors. Our ladies league, while social, can be quite competitive and our detailed structure makes the management of the league a herculean task.
Besides our wide-variety of formats, our season scheduling and pairings could be a thesis topic for a math major at MIT! Sometimes players are scheduled randomly and at other times, players are required to play within their flights. We also try to be as equitable as possible with our golfers with respect to their early, mid and late tee times through the season. Did I mention we rotate everyone so that they play each of our three nines the same amount?
Prizes are awarded at the end of the season for member standings based on the tournaments played as well as eagles, birdies and pars obtained through the season. And of course, don’t forget the Ringerboard, which tabulates a player’s best score for each hole throughout the season. It’s no surprise that no one else raised their hand to volunteer to run the league!
I am all about efficiency, so when I became the league co-Captain, I immediately started searching for a computer program that would do most of this work for me. It didn’t take me long to find Golf Genius Software and GolfLeagueGenius.com. GolfLeagueGenius is a marvelous product and my league can hardly remember what it was like to go to the club and sign up on a wall to play a round of golf, put dots on their cards, and record the specifics for each different type of game we play.
Today, I simply set up a calendar of all of our dates at the beginning of the season, create the tournaments, send out invitations to play, and then click a button to set up my foursomes based on the criteria of the week. Now that’s efficiency at its finest. Emailing the tee sheets is wonderful. With another click of a button, everyone is emailed their tee time and they can view who is in their group.
When it’s time to score, GolfLeagueGenius is nothing short of spectacular. Simply click on a group, enter their scores and voila! Have a tournament where you want to determine the winner by flight? Automatic. Tie breaking? Automatic. Want to send out the results to all members? Automatic. Before GolfLeagueGenius, it took four people to compute all the different games and points and standing information. Today, GolfLeagueGenius does the work for us.
One of the wonderful features of this software is the Member Portal. Creating the portal is a fun and easy way for our league to interact. Current information, results and statistics are now right easily accessible. Members can also sign up for events through the Member Portal. No more need for me to call members who have forgotten to sign up. A click of a button sends an email to members to remind them to sign up electronically, and the ladies can share stories, photos, and even take polls.
Our league is also enjoying the newest feature to GolfLeagueGenius, the TV display leaderboard. We simply connect a laptop to the TV in the clubhouse and members can sit and enjoy lunch, have a glass of wine and watch the scores come in. The leaderboard automatically updates to show the current standings of players—it doesn’t get much better than that.
Thanks to GolfLeagueGenius, I now do less work before and after the game. Now, if only GolfLeagueGenius could help me sink those birdie putts!
