PGA Golf Professional
Eric Pevoto, the PGA Golf Professional at Bella Vista Golf Course, first started using GolfLeagueGenius in 2012 as one of the original beta testers of the product. After a successful beta season, Pevoto once again leveraged GLG for the Bella Vista men’s club in 2013. Expanding his entrepreneurial prowess beyond the men’s club, Pevoto also used GolfLeagueGenius for outside groups that booked outings with Bella Vista.
We started using GolfLeagueGenius for our Monday evening men’s league in 2012 as one of the beta clubs. The timing couldn’t have been better as we decided to use a modified round robin format that season and the flexibility that GLG offered was perfect.
This season, we changed formats to an aggregate Stableford series over several weeks of qualifying and then seeded match play brackets according to aggregate points. Again, the software worked incredibly well, saving me hours of organization and effort. The plan for next season is to stay with the aggregate Stableford and add formats through the regular season for additional points.
What are your favorite features of GolfLeagueGenius?
A real strength of the software is that gross scores only have to be entered once to score several different formats. This proves to be a huge timesaver for the professional staff and being able to play multiple formats is a great way to keep things interesting for our returning players.
We’re also planning on testing the live-scoring from the app or smartphone for next season as I see it offering several important benefits to our professional staff, our players and our golf course. It will be very helpful to our staff in adding efficiency, ensuring accuracy and reducing administrative time. It will also add a whole new level of interest for the players as it gives them a way to follow along during play, as well as post-round on larger leaderboard displays in the clubhouse, creating an atmosphere that will drive more food and beverage revenue to the restaurant.
Communication among the league players is significantly improved with the software and our custom member website created with GolfLeagueGenius. Golfers are able to send emails and find other contact information directly from the player roster. This has drastically cut down on last-minute calls and emails to the golf shop because players are able to coordinate everything on their own and the work is already done.
Talk about how you started using GolfLeagueGenius for outings held at your course.
We started using GolfLeagueGenius for our 2013 outings and outside league tournaments. Ease of use, particularly with regard to setting and changing pairings, was a main drawing point. We’re able to easily print pairings and alpha lists, cart signs and scorecards all with the outing sponsor’s logo.
Another feature that GolfLeagueGenius offers that we’re very interested in using is online registration. It allows the outing coordinator and our staff to send out emails to prospective players and monitor registration up to the event. Last minute commitments and dropped players is a typical headache for outing organizers and GLG’s solution will alleviate that stress.
How does GolfLeagueGenius help tournaments and scoring for outings?
The ability to offer alternative or multiple formats to outings is an outstanding value add. So many outing coordinators are bored with the usual scramble or captain’s pick format and are looking for another game to maximize player interest and enjoyment. GolfLeagueGenius supplies this option.
Scoring in GolfLeagueGenius is amazingly quick and being able to use the TV display was a nice touch for the outings, since we don’t have a formal scoreboard at the club. We simply hook the laptop up to a big TV in the banquet facility and we’re able to show a running scoreboard while we score the event. The golfers love it as they can see the leaderboard unfold before their eyes.
And after the outing?
After the event, I’m able to send a link to the outing coordinator with the outing’s custom GolfLeagueGenius website that shows results, stats, photos, etc. The flexibility of the member portal allows for creativity and the outing coordinator is able to link to their website or send an email to all the outing participants.
We haven’t yet used the live-scoring from the app for the outings, but I think this is an interesting feature that would add real value to our club’s outing service.
Why do you recommend GolfLeagueGenius for other PGA Pros?
Overall, the time saved from administrative tasks allows PGA pros more time to ensure that all our golfers are enjoying themselves. In a time when staffing budgets are tight, GolfLeagueGenius helps us run leagues and events with very professional presentation and organization. We see customers returning to our facility based on the value and golf experience that we can provide.
Also, the support from Golf Genius Software is excellent and highly responsive. My questions by email or phone have been answered promptly and the problems solved almost immediately. The library of knowledge with regard to formats and setting up leagues is great. Having access to a support team that has experience with so many different formats and types of leagues is very helpful.
How can GolfLeagueGenius increase revenue and value at other golf courses like yours?
The most revenue potential is with food and beverage sales as players congregate around the scoring display. I’d also say all the value added that I’ve mentioned allows courses to offer outstanding service and unique marketing opportunities so the outing returns year after year. Our retention rate for outings is outstanding and I’d like to keep it that way by offering them services that aren’t typically seen at a daily-fee facility. Lastly, the online registration is a great way for clubs to bolster their database by gathering email addresses.
